Fire destroys last remaining part of Jyamarung Palace in Dhading

blog

BY OUR CORRESPONDENT,Dhading, July 9: A fire broke out last night at a horse stable, the only remaining part of the historic Jyamarung Palace in Nilkantha Municipality-11 of Dhading.

The palace, originally built by King Narabhupal Shah around 300 years ago, was set ablaze during the Maoist insurgency in 2002, leaving only the stable intact.

According to Ward Chairman Ram Bahadur Shrestha, the fire is suspected to have started due to an electrical short circuit. Despite efforts from locals and security personnel, the entire stable was completely destroyed.

The Jyamarung Palace was a significant cultural and historical site for the Shah dynasty, used for royal rituals and military training.

During the 2002 arson attack, ancestral jewelry, antique weapons, ancient coins, religious items, silver ornaments, and other artefacts were lost. Last night’s fire has now erased the last physical remnant of the palace.

Though no valuables were stored in the stable, some old wooden items and clothes belonging to caretakers were destroyed. With this incident, a key heritage symbol of Dhading has been lost forever.
