By Gokarna Dayal,Baitadi, June 29: Dasharathchand Municipality has trained 47 young entrepreneurs by providing them with traditional skill-based training. The trainees received 52 days of training in bamboo craft, leather processing and woodcraft.

The municipality has also established a leather processing centre in Jhokaali-1, where local youths received training.

According to Dasharathchand Municipality Mayor Pushkar Raj Joshi, the centre has been set up to modernise the traditional leather processing work already present in the area.

He added that the training was provided with the aim of modernising traditional skills and turning young people into entrepreneurs. Along with the training, necessary tools and equipment are also being distributed, helping to create employment opportunities at the local level.

With the support of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, 15 youths from Jhokaali received leather processing training, while 32 youths from Dehimando-2 and other areas received training in bamboo craft and woodcraft, said Nandaraj Joshi, Head of the Municipality’s Employment Section.

The tools and equipment will be distributed to the trained youths by the end of this month. Youth trainee Lalit Wada, who took part in the woodcraft training, said that after learning the skills and receiving tools from the municipality, he now feels confident about becoming an entrepreneur within Nepal itself.

Similarly, Prem Bhandari, a resident of Ward 3, said that receiving 52 days of training from skilled craftsmen has made him capable of becoming an entrepreneur. Bhandari, who previously did basic carpentry work, now plans to open a woodcraft business in Dehimando Bazaar.

Another youth, Uddhav Lawad, who had been doing traditional bamboo work, said that after learning bamboo weaving techniques, he is now able to produce attractive bamboo products. The entrepreneurs have already made stools, chairs, racks, and other decorative items from bamboo.

They have also displayed and sold their products at Nepal-India trade fairs, he added.
