By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 26: Ruling CPN (UML) has evaluated the one-year term of the current government as satisfactory, successful and effective.

The 53rd secretariat meeting of the ruling CPN-UML on Wednesday concluded that the government, formed with the participation of major parties, aiming at maintaining stability and good governance, was moving effectively towards achieving its goal.

After the meeting held at the party’s Central Office in Chyasal, Lalitpur, the party’s deputy general secretary and party spokesperson, Pradeep Gyawali, said that emphasis was laid on the need for the government to focus on good governance and service delivery, adding that achievements such as the arrival of a preliminary report on methane gas exploration in Dailekh were considered as further progress.

Stating that exploration of methane could help bring prosperity in the country, Gyawali, however, said there is still a need to give high priority to good governance.

The meeting also decided to call the party's central committee meeting on July 21.

The meeting decided to hold the central committee meeting on July 21, informed Gyawali.

He mentioned that the meeting will discuss the statute convention scheduled for September 7-8.

Gyawali said, “The Secretariat meeting also decided to present three proposals at the statute convention.”

According to Gyawali, Chairman KP Sharma Oli will present the political proposal at the convention.

“Similarly, Vice Chairman Bishnu Paudel will present the statute amendment proposal, and General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel will present the organisational proposal,” he added.

Likewise, the CPN-UML has lifted the suspension on Standing Committee member Dr. Binda Pandey and central committee member Usha Kiran Timilsina, Gyawali informed.

The party secretariat meeting on December 25, 2024, suspended Pandey and Timilsina from their respective responsibilities for six months. The same meeting also stripped the party’s senior leader Bhim Rawal of his party membership.

The party took an action against Rawal, Pandey and Timilsina for opposing the party’s decision to build its party headquarters on the land donated by Min Bahadur Gurung, the owner of Bhatbhateni Supermarket.

On October 28, the party sought clarification from three of them for publicly criticising the party’s decision. Pandey and Timilsina had submitted their clarifications on October 28, 2024. However, the party suspended them, citing that the party leadership was not satisfied with the clarification submitted by them.

Meanwhile, the meeting also decided to urge the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) not to engage in unnecessary or inappropriate behaviour in parliament, he informed. Answering the query of the journalists regarding the JSP’s withdrawal of support to the ruling alliance, Gyawali said, “We have learned that the JSP, led by Upendra Yadav, has decided to withdraw their support.”

“However, the party had not formally informed the Parliament secretariat about the decision.  We hope that such a situation will not arise, as there has been no valid reason during this period for them to withdraw their support,” he added.
