By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, June 24: Office bearers of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation (NTF) met with CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ at his residence in Khumaltar on Monday.
During the meeting, representatives of the federation complained that the government had shown apathy in implementing the agreements reached between the government and teachers.
They also expressed hope that the opposition would strongly support ensuring their prompt enforcement, informed the secretariat of chairman Prachanda.
After hearing the concerns and demands of the teachers, Chairman Prachanda said teaching is a dignified profession closely linked with the country’s future and the government must act responsibly towards teachers.
“Teachers must be respected, as this is an honourable profession tied to the future of the nation,” he said.
He further added, “The situation has arisen where the agreements between the government and the Teachers’ Federation are not being implemented. We decided to lift the House obstruction so the government cannot make the excuse that teachers’ demands were unmet because of the Parliament’s disruption.”
Emphasising that the legitimate demands of teachers should be fulfilled without any conditions, Chairman Prachanda said, “We will fully commit ourselves to promptly address those demands.”
He also highlighted the need to integrate early childhood development classes into the school structure.
During the meeting, the office bearers of the federation urged him to help free the education sector from the grip of uncertainty and to take initiative to implement the agreements made with teachers.
