By Our Correspondent,Nepalgunj, June 21: A training and technology transfer programme on making bamboo basket (Dhakiya) has been conducted in Kohalpur area, Banke, targeting sickle cell anema affected individuals and their families, under the budget allocated from the Constituency Development Fund of the Lumbini Provincial Government.
Kohalpur Municipality stated that their aim is to provide household skills to around 20 sickle cell affected individuals and their family members through the programme and help them achieve economic self-reliance.
Mayor of Kohalpur Municipality, Purna Prasad Acharya, said, “The Dhakiya weaving training has been provided to create opportunities for individuals suffering from long term treatment, physical weakness and financial burden caused by sickle cell disease to earn an income from home through traditional skills.”
The municipality has stated that the training and technology transfer programme was successfully conducted with the involvement of the Cottage and Small Industry Office and Siddhartha Integrated Development Centre in organising, managing and running the event.
The training participants expressed their gratitude to the trainer, the organising institution, the supporting agencies, and everyone involved for helping to carry out this initiative, which highlights economic potential within limited capacity and humanitarian efforts.
Lumbini Provincial Assembly member Sanju Kumari Chaudhary stated that the programme is believed to open a new door to self-reliance and a dignified livelihood for the sickle cell-affected community.
She emphasised that the municipality should also support the marketing of the products made by individuals affected by sickle cell disease.
