BY CHANDRA PANDAK,Taplejung, May 22: Dipendra Pomu (Dipen), Chairman of Aathrai Tribeni Rural Municipality in Taplejung, has said that major developments have been achieved, particularly in infrastructure development.
On the occasion of the three-year completion of his office, Chairman Pomu made his major achievements public on Tuesday.
According to him, approximately 65 kilometres of roads have been upgraded and maintained during this period.
He said, “A key milestone is the completion of the Gorja-Surke-Selele-Bhuje Gufa track, offering an alternative route from Taplejung to Dharan. Road construction connecting Lumbini Bridge in Nighuradin in ward No. 1 to the headquarters Phidim via Chokpur has also begun.”
In the announcement, Chairman Pomu informed that the construction of the municipality’s administrative building and a multipurpose covered hall is in its final phase. A community building in Nighuradin has been completed and brought into use. Under the ‘One Ward, One Playground’ initiative, sports grounds in Ward Nos. 1 and 2 are also nearing completion.
In health infrastructure, birthing centres have been established and are operational in Ward Nos. 1, 3 and 4, with construction ongoing in other wards. A 10-bed hospital is under construction, along with a concrete bridge over the Sobuwa Khola connecting Hangpang and Change.
He said a free ambulance service has been made available for pregnant and postpartum women. Over three years, 321 elderly citizens aged above 70 years have received free eyeglasses, and 59 received dental care. Regular health checkups for senior citizens and free medication for low-income families have been provided. Rabies vaccines are now available in Ward Nos.1 and 3.
In the education sector, free schooling up to Grade 12 is implemented in community schools. Programmes like education assemblies, workshops and teacher support (monthly allowances) have been introduced. Model schools have also been identified and developed.
Agricultural and environmental efforts include the ‘One Household, One Tap’ campaign and the establishment of agricultural learning centres in each ward. Farmers are receiving improved seeds, fertilisers and subsidies.
To promote good governance and digital services, fiber internet is being installed across all government offices and schools. Services like citizenship, birth registration, and recommendations are now available online. CCTV installation for security in public offices and schools is nearly complete. Free electricity has been extended to all households in the municipality.
Chairman Pomu credited these achievements to public trust, staff dedication and collaborative leadership. He pledged continued inclusive development and effective service delivery in the remaining two years of his term.
