By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May 21: Shree Bhagwati Club has clinched promotion to the Martyr’s Memorial A Division League after a crucial 2-1 victory over Boys Union Club at the ANFA Complex on Tuesday. The win guarantees Shree Bhagwati a second-place finish in the B Division standings.

With this triumph, Shree Bhagwati hit 26 points from 12 matches, securing their ticket to the top flight with a game to spare. The club had previously lifted the C Division title in 2016 before earning a spot in the B Division.

Planning Boyz, the newly crowned champions, lead the table with 30 points from 12 matches.

Meanwhile, Boys Union remains stuck on 19 points. Even if they win their final fixture, they can’t overtake Shree Bhagwati.

Going into the match, Shree Bhagwati needed a full three points to seal their promotion, while Boys Union faced a must-win scenario to keep their A Division dreams alive. But Shree Bhagwati wasted no time—Shishir Lekhi broke the deadlock in the sixth minute. In the 38th minute, Ajit Lama doubled the lead, giving his side a commanding 2-0 advantage at halftime.

Boys Union fought back in the second half, and Sanjib Lama pulled one back in the 79th minute. However, it was too little, too late. Shree Bhagwati held firm and saw out the match, securing a historic victory.

Meanwhile, Tushal Youth Club and Nayabasti Club have been relegated to the C Division. Tushal’s fate was sealed after 12th-placed Annapurna Club (RCT) held fifth-placed Birgunj United to a 1-1 draw. The result lifted RCT to 11th place with 15 points, while Birgunj remained in fifth with 17 points.

Tushal finished with 11 points, while Naya Basti ended the campaign with just five from 12 matches. Meanwhile, Birgunj, Shree Kumari Club, RCT, Bansbari Club, Saraswoti Youth Club, Madhyapur Youth Association, Brigade Boys, and Chyasal Youth Club have avoided the drop and will compete in the B Division next season.
