Kathmandu, May 5: Nepal Army Club has become the champion of the national women's hockey tournament.
The NAC topped the round-robin league to be crowned the champions of the tournament that featured four teams. The NAC remain undefeated in the tournament after defeating Gandaki Province by 3-0 goals in the final match of the league held at Chyasal Ground today.
Damara Bhatta scored 2 goals and Sitamaya Bal scored one goal for NAC.
Likewise, Gandaki finished second with 2 wins and one loss. Madhesh Province came third in the event organized by the Nepal Hockey Association.
The top three received cash prizes of Rs 75,000, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively.
The NAC's Nilima Pandey was named the best player of the tournament while Madhesh's Khushbu Kumari was named the best emerging player. Anisha Thapa Magar was named the best goalkeeper and Sonu Baral the best defender. Army's Kamala Chand, who scored 5 goals throughout the tournament, became the top scorer. The top five received a cash prize of Rs 5,000 each.
The winners were awarded by National Sports Council (NSC) Vice-President Dhruv Acharya, NSC Executive Committee member and Hockey Association General Secretary Subarna Shrestha, NSC member Jagatsingh Dhami, Hockey Association President Anil Prasad Sharma, Secretary Asim Sharma and others guest at the prize distribution ceremony held today.
