By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, May.1: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended heartfelt greetings of peace, prosperity, and solidarity to all Nepali workers at home and abroad on the occasion of World Labour Day.

In his message, President Paudel expressed his commitment to the protection and promotion of labour rights in Nepal. Highlighting the significance of May 1 as a historic day dedicated to the professional dignity and rights of workers across the world, he emphasised that the day plays a vital role in uniting labourers globally to safeguard their interests, rights, and freedoms.

President Paudel underscored the constitutional provisions of Nepal that guarantee the right to employment, fair payment, decent working conditions and social security for all workers. He clarified that the right to equality ensures that there shall be no discrimination in payment and social security based on gender for equal work.

Addressing the importance of entrepreneurship, President Paudel said that the development of a self-reliant and prosperous national economy depends on increased domestic production. He stressed the equal importance of both capital investment by entrepreneurs and the labour and skills provided by workers.

Creating a dignified working environment is essential to enhancing productivity and economic growth, he said. Meanwhile, Vice-President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav has also extended heartfelt greetings to all Nepali working-class sisters and brothers at home and abroad on the occasion of May Day.

Highlighting the invaluable contribution of workers to the development, construction, and progress of society and the nation, Vice President Yadav stressed the need for continued efforts from all sectors to protect workers’ rights, improve living standards, and ensure fair remuneration.

In his message, he said that this day serves as an opportunity to express a firm commitment and determination to ensure a safe, dignified, and inclusive working environment with equal pay for all.

“A society and nation can become more just and prosperous only through the protection and welfare of workers,” he added.

In the context of Nepal, the Vice President remarked that the contribution of workers to national development and prosperity is unparalleled.

He recognised their significant roles in agriculture, industry, development and construction, tourism, domestic sectors, and international labour markets.

While acknowledging the positive impact of foreign employment in bringing in foreign currency, he emphasised the importance of creating a fair and just employment environment within the country itself.

Vice President Yadav pointed out that the Constitution of Nepal guarantees the rights of workers, including the right to work, fair wages, safe working conditions and a dignified life.

It also provides for social security for workers and prohibits child labour while ensuring children’s rights, he said, adding, “The federal democratic republic governance system holds federal, provincial, and local governments accountable for protecting workers’ rights and enhancing their capacities.”

He underscored the necessity of ensuring minimum wages, timely payment and providing workers with pensions, insurance and other social security benefits.
