By Jayakrishna Yadav,Inaruwa, Apr. 26: A district-level coordination committee meeting between India and Nepal was held in Birpur, Supaul district of Bihar, India. The meeting brought together officials from the bordering districts of the two countries.
The session concluded with a decision to coordinate efforts to control smuggling and crimes along the border.
Held on Wednesday, the committee decided that both sides would cooperate to curb criminal activities exploiting the open border. The initiative was taken in response to ongoing complaints about increasing smuggling incidents and crimes.
According to Kaushal Kumar, DM of Supaul district (the organising party), officials from Nepal’s Saptari and Sunsari districts, including chief district officers and heads of district security agencies, participated in the meeting.
He said that the meeting at Kaushiki Bhawan in Birpur involved timely discussions and a review of security challenges.
Among the Nepali participants were Sunsari’s Chief District Officer Dharmendra Mishra, Superintendent of Police Suman Kumar Timilsina, and Saptari’s Superintendent of Police Dhakendra Khatiwada.
The meeting focused on reviewing peace and security issues across the border regions and exchanging information on inter-district development, sensitive topics, and the monitoring and arrest of individuals or groups involved in various criminal cases or taking shelter in the border areas.
Furthermore, there was discussion about controlling illegal transportation of goods and ensuring the continuity of such meetings.
