By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Apr. 25: Acting President of the Nepali Congress, Purna Bahadur Khadka, has issued a message on the occasion of Loktantra Day on Thursday, paying tribute to the martyrs who laid their lives in the nation’s long struggle for freedom, civil rights, and democratic governance.
In his statement, Khadka recalled the historic April Uprising 2006, led by the Nepali Congress and other democratic forces, which brought an end to the autocratic monarchy. That movement, he noted, laid the foundation for Nepal’s transformation into a federal democratic republic and the eventual promulgation of the Constitution through an elected
Constituent Assembly.
“This day is a matter of great pride for all Nepalis,” said Khadka, adding that Loktantra Day serves as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made to secure the freedoms enjoyed today. “The responsibility of strengthening our constitution and guiding the country towards economic prosperity now lies with all of us,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of remaining vigilant to safeguard the democratic system. “Since everyone’s rights are safeguarded only in democracy, I urge all citizens to stay aware and committed to defending it,” said Khadka.
