By Yadu Prasad Bhatta, Manang, Apr.21: Regular bus service to Chame, the headquarters of Manang district, has resumed from Sunday, 22 years after the track was opened. The Besisahar to Chame track was commenced by the efforts of the Nepal Army.
Tek Bahadur Gurung, a member of the House of Representatives (MP) and former Minister of State, said that the aim of assuming the only road track in Manang, which was opened amid Maoist insurgency and handed over to the government, has been fructified.
The bus, which was formally put into operation from Syage, the border between Lamjung and Manang, reached Manang smoothly on Sunday.
The local administration has brought the bus into operation after necessary coordination with the Dumre Besisahar Chame Road Project and other concerned bodies.
The fare from Besisahar to Chame has been fixed at Rs. 740. This will reduce the financial burden to locals and tourists who were charged a hefty fee for the commute.
The locals are elated as now the monopoly of Bolero and pickup jeeps, which have been charging exorbitant fares, will end, and locals will be able to avail services easily.
However, continuing to transport during the rainy season will be winning despite the odds.
