By TRN Online, Kathmandu, April 19: The Confucius Institute in Tribhuvan University (CITU) hosted a ceremony to mark the International Chinese Language Day 2025.
The United Nations (UN) marks the Chinese Language Day on April 20.
The CITU’s celebration was held on Friday under the theme “Chinese Language: A Gift Across Time and Space”.
Addressing the ceremony, acting Vice-Chancellor of Tribhuvan University (TU), Khadga K.C., hailed the role of the CITU to bolster cultural relations between Nepal and China and viewed that it was one of a prominent and effective achievement made during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Nepal visit back in 2019.
He stated that the Chinese language has been a predominant soft power of China and becoming a global phenomenon before the rise of China as global economic power. He expressed his happiness on being the descendants of great Araniko and Bhrikuti who have a significant existence in the Chinese history.
Welcoming the attendees Balaram Duwal, Nepal side Director of the CITU highlighted the Chinese language as the bridge not only connecting the countries but also the civilization.
On the occasion, cultural performances were also presented that highlighted cultural diversity of Nepal and China as well. The students of School Of Management demonstrated the beautiful fan dance while little students from LRI School danced very well in the Nepalese cultural song. The scholars from PN Campus Pokhara recited a poem in Chinese language. The games were played, calligraphy were demonstrated during the event. These activities were the proof of increasing importance of Chinese language and culture across Nepal.
Closing the ceremony, Zhang Xingnian, China Side Director of CITU highlighted the importance of learning Chinese language while pointing to the influence of the China in the global economy. Confucius Institute at TU is committed to spread the availability of Chinese language classes and teachers across the nation, he said.
