43 injured in Makawanpur bus accident

By Anil Parajuli, Hetauda, April 17: 43 persons were injured when a passenger-ferrying bus met with an accident in Manahari rural municipality-6, Sunachuri of Makawanpur along the East-West Highway this morning. There were 52 onboard passengers in the bus. 

According to the District Police Office, 43 passengers were injured when the bus (Lu 2 Kha 599) en route to Bhairahawa from Itahari fell some 10 meters down the road, causing an accident at 4:50 AM on Thursday. 

16 people have sustained moderate injuries and 27 have sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Of the 16 moderately injured, six are undergoing treatment at New Medical College, Bharatpur, Chitwan,n and 10 in the Old Medical College, Bharatpur, Chitwan. Of the 27 receiving minor injuries, 3 are undergoing treatment at New Medical Hospital and 24 are in the Old Medical College. 

The injured were rescued and sent to Chitwan Hospital for treatment, office spokesperson Shyamu Aryal said. 

According to him, as per the preliminary estimation that the accident occurred when the steering wheel of the bus locked and the driver lost control.

 The injured have sustained injuries in various parts of their bodies.

Bus driver Rakesh Chaudhary, 29, of Kolbi Municipality-11, Bara, has been arrested for investigation into the incident.
