Kathmandu, April 10: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, has said that Sikari Sardar Banshu (Bansha) Gurung has made a significant contribution to Nepal's history in defeating the British army in the battle of Sindhuligadhi.
At a program to affix the first cancellation mark on a postal stamp published under the Philatelic Program 2024/25 by the Department of Postal Services on Thursday, Minister Gurung said that Bansha Gurung has made a significant contribution to protecting Nepal's sovereignty. Nepal is independent today due to the contribution of Sikari Sardar and hence was a matter of pride to have a stamp on his memory.
Postal stamp of Sikari Sardar Banshu (Bansha) Gurung has been published of ten rupees denomination has been published. Minister Gurung also put the cancellation mark on a postage stamp on the ‘endemic’ plants of Nepal on the occasion.
Sardar Gurung was one of the leaders who defeated the British army in the battle of Sindhuligadhi. He was born in Kone Nasa village of Lamjung. Later, he migrated to Dhor Jaspur, Shuklagandaki Municipality-12, Tanahun. He was an expert in archery, which led then King Prithvi Narayan Shah to include him in his team and sent him to Sindhuligadhi to fight away the British invaders.(RSS)
