Rs 100,000 fine in case of electrofishing

 Kimathanka (Sankhuwasabha), April 5: Sabhapokhari rural municipality of Sankhuwasabha has decided to fine up to Rs 100,000 against those involved in electrofishing.     

An executive meeting of Sabhapokhari rural municipality held on April 3 took the decision to slap up to Rs 100,000 fine against those involved in fishing with electric current in Sabha Khola and Langkhuwa Khola conservation area or other restricted area, said Vice-Chairperson of at the rural municipality, Laxmi Chapagain.     

Similarly, a decision was also taken to fine up to Rs 50,000 against those involved in fishing using traditional methods including net and hook.     

Chief Executive Officer Buku Prasad Acharya mentioned that the rural municipality would collect fine with the help of police administration by arresting those involved in use of electric current in fishing and 15 per cent of the collected fine would be provided to the concerned police administration as an incentive.     

Likewise, five per cent amount would also be provided as incentive to the informant on illegal fishing in the restricted areas, added the rural municipality. Recommendation would be made for filing a case as per the existing laws if the guilty ones failed to pay fine. (RSS)
