Chhetri arrested from Kohalpur for demanding Rs 50 million ransom

By Siraj Khan, Nepalgunj, Apr.3: The Area Police Office, Kohalpur, has taken into custody a person camoflauging to be 'Lawrence Bishnoi and Anmol Bishnoi' and demanding a ransom of 50 million Indian rupees through the social media platform WhatsApp.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Dharma Raj Bhandari of Area Police Office, Kohalpur, police have arrested Ram Bahadur Budha Chhetri, aged 41, of Katheghari Bheri Ganga Municipality-7 Surkhet, currently living at Kohalpur Municipality-5, for demanding ransom through WhatsApp from various foreign numbers.

He said that police investigation revealed that the arrested Chhetri had sent messages claiming to be 'Lawrence Bishnoi and Anmol Bishnoi' demanding 50 million Indian rupees and threatening that anything could happen if the ransom amount were not paid.

DSP Bhandari also said that during the initial investigation, it was found that he had opened WhatsApp from a foreign number and had sent messages from the number.

According to the police, Chhetri has been demanding ransom in the names of Lawrence Bishnoi and Anmol Bishnoi, notorious Indian extortionists and murderers.

According to the Kohalpur Area Police Office, Chhetri has been found to have multiple criminal and murder cases registered against him in various parts of the country.

DSP Bhandari, Chief of the Area Police Office, Kohalpur, said that he has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway. 

Chhetri was found using his Indian Aadhaar card and various foreign WhatsApp numbers to carry out criminal activities.
