By Rabindra Upreti,Bardibas, Mar. 26: Minister for Labour, Employment, and Social Security, Sarat Singh Bhandari has said that the government has declared a Decade of Domestic Employment Promotion based on the conclusions drawn from the recently concluded National Labour and Employment Conference.
He mentioned that to achieve this goal, the government was working in collaboration with domestic employers to create employment opportunities within the country.
Speaking at the ‘Divya 1000 Days’ programme organised by Bardibas Municipality on Tuesday to mark 1,000 days since the election of local representatives, Minister Bhandari assured that the Decade of Employment Promotion would play a crucial role in ensuring public service, good governance and the experience of republicanism.
He also remarked that Bardibas Municipality’s ‘Divya 1000 Days’ event, held for the first time in the country, is exemplary for others. Minister Bhandari highlighted that Bardibas is gaining importance of transit due to its road network and the under-construction electric railway junction.
He further stressed that the ongoing mega project of the Tamagadhi–Khurkot–Ramechhap–Bhitthamod road, which will connect China and India via Bardibas, makes it imperative for the municipality to advance its responsibilities with foresight.
Minister Bhandari further said, “This is the shortest route connecting China and India through Nepal, which enhances its strategic importance.”
“The work on this priority mega project has already begun. Bardibas Municipality must assess the potential impacts of this route and plan its future development and governance accordingly,” he added.
At the event, Bardibas Mayor Prahalad Kumar Chettri claimed that in 1,000 days since their election, the municipality has prioritised the needs of the people.
He said, “A five-year term consists of a total of 1,825 days. Over these 1,000 days, Bardibas Municipality has made achievements in agriculture, infrastructure, drinking water, education, health and good governance. I urge everyone to evaluate and compare these accomplishments with the other 734 local levels across the country.”
Mayor Chettri presented a 51-page report outlining the municipality’s development achievements during these 1,000 days.
The report included the construction of approximately 54 kilometres of paved roads, 26 culverts, the renovation of 31 religious sites, 38 community buildings, four km of irrigation canals, as well as the installation of 94 deep borings and 67 wells.
He added, “By linking overall development indicators with sustainable development, we have consistently pursued development and good governance to establish Bardibas as a model municipality.”
Earlier, Chief Executive Officer of Bardibas Municipality, Rammani Adhikari said that the achievements of the past 1,000 days were made public to institutionalise transparency and uphold the right to information guaranteed by the constitution.
