By Our Correspondent,Charikot, June 10: Locals frustrated by dusty roads in winter and muddy roads during the rainy season are happy after the blacktopping of the Sunakhani-Sangba road. It is the main route that leads to the northern part of the Dolakha district.

Locals used to complain that travelling along Lapilang of Kalinchowk Rural Municipality-6 was difficult as it was muddy during the rainy season and extremely dusty during the summer season. But now the situation is over.

According to the Dolakha Infrastructure Development Office, a 15-kilometre stretch of the Sunakhani-Sangba road in northern Dolakha has been blacktopped at a cost of Rs. 440 million by the Bagmati Provincial Government.

The road, which passes through difficult terrain from Kalinchowk to Bigu Rural Municipality, has significantly improved road access for locals to the five wards of the district.

Commuters are relieved after the road has been blacktopped, said Manish Thami, a local.

“Travelling to the district headquarters on a motorcycle was very difficult before the blacktopping of the road. Now, after the road is repaired and blacktopped, travel has become much easier,” he added.

Locals said that the road has become more convenient with the addition of drainage systems as well. Farmers are particularly happy as they can now easily transport their agricultural produce to the market. With the completion of this road project, northern villages in Dolakha have become more connected to the district headquarters, Charikot.

The paved road has made travel easier for people in Lapilang, Lamidanda, Babare, Kalinchowk, Sangba Bazaar in Khopachagu, Bigu Monastery, Chilankha, and Aalampu.

Sahadev Khadka, the ward chairperson of Kalinchowk-5, said that rural settlements are now more connected with urban centres. He added that the sale and distribution of local products and the transportation of goods have also become much easier.
