At the parliament recently, Prime Minister Balendra Shah made powerful statements while answering the questions asked mainly by the opposition party members, some of which I am going to present and discuss below.
“The things that could not be achieved in thirty-five years can’t be achieved in thirty-five minutes. Please don’t expect that. It takes time.” Wow, what a powerful answer! The opposition parties should not oppose the government and the prime minister just for the sake of opposing. The PM and the government do not have magic sticks to solve certain complex problems just in a flick of time. It takes time. The opposition parties should think deeply, prudently and logically. Most importantly, they should all focus on development in numerous sectors. These are the days of development.
“It’s so easy to shout out loud ‘communism’ and ‘socialism’ in a speech and feel full gratification but true communism and socialism need to be materialised at the core providing help to the needy and the destitute.” True. In Nepali politics, ‘communism’ and ‘socialism’ have been used as powerful political tools to give false hopes to the people and to lure votes to get to power only. These two words have become irritating, loud sounds of large gongs. Nepali people are utterly fed up with these words.
For many years, foxy and crafty political leaders cheated innocent people, looted them and yanked the beautiful Himalayan country in the quagmire of systematic and strategic political corruption. ‘Communism’ and ‘socialism’ have lost their original meanings. Because of the utter misuse of these ideologies by Nepali politicians in the past, ‘communism’ and ‘socialism’ have become hateful terms for common Nepali people. They simply did not deliver any good outcomes to the common public. Actions are needed now. No more cheap talk. No more alien ideologies.
“Rather than increasing confidence, our country needs money now. Therefore, our attention has been directed towards increasing money.” How beautiful! Money can’t be replaced by emotions or good intentions. They have their own importance. Likewise, confidence has its own merit. However, money is money. Money makes the world go round. Money talks. Money is needed for trade. Money is needed to buy modern equipment. Money is needed to build infrastructure. Most importantly, money is needed to buy food and medicine.
In today’s era of science and technology, artificial intelligence and space missions, you need money for almost everything. Therefore, the people in the government and the parliament should think wisely and devise and execute plans to generate money. Nepali people can’t bear to be poor all the time. Within Nepal itself, there should be abundant opportunities to work and make money. It’s possible. We have so many resources. We have so many hardworking people. At present, what Nepal is seeking is a visionary, hardworking, and people-and-country-loving government and politicians.
“You might be surprised to hear this. I also came to know about it lately after I became Prime Minister. It’s not that India only has encroached Nepali land; Nepal too has encroached Indian lands in many places.” This, truly, is surprising! But the good news, as per the Prime Minister, is that the issue will be solved in a cordial manner as friends.
