Kathmandu, March 11: Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung has said that demand for the reinstatement of monarchy in a federal democratic republic is a regressive and irrelevant call.
At a programme organized by the Department of Postal Service for the first cancellation mark on postage stamp issued on Tuesday, Minister Gurung said that possibility of revival of dethroned king is impossible while considering logical, democratic and other aspects.
Minister Gurung recalled that monarchy was stationed on the foundation of feudalistic regime and added that this is an undemocratic move in the democratic period.
He argued that Nepal's monarchy ended in a true sense after the royal massacre.
On a separate context, Communications Minister Subba said that bill on regulations of social networking sites was needed to protect the society from anarchy.
During the event, Minister Gurung put the first cancellation mark on the postage stamps depicting Chiniyalal Singh and Naradmuni Thulung, who contributed significantly to Nepal's political and academic transformation.(RSS)
