Kathmandu, March 2 : The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology has organised a day-long capacity enhancement training for journalists.
Inaugurating the training
coordinated by the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), Ministry Officiating Secretary
Gajendra Kumar Thakur expressed his hope that this sort of orientation
programme for journalists would help hone the skills for professional
journalism, informing them about latest journalistic practices and trends.
The event has been attended by
around 40 journalists from diverse state-owned media.
As he said, capacity enhancement of
media and journalists is the priority of the Ministry and the event aimed to
find a future course of action and pursue policies for the continuity of the
Ministry's efforts towards that end.
He also acknowledged the support of
the RSS in organising the event.
Also speaking on the occasion, RSS
Executive Chairman Dharmendra Jha said lately investigative reporting and
professional journalism have been missed in Nepali media, and that's why the
orientation has been organised to sensitize journalists about the significance
and relevance of investigate journalism. It is for encouraging media to also
prioritise investigative genre over the formal events, according to him.
He added that training, orientation
like programmes are a means of updating the participants on something new
contents and developments. He also echoed the need of giving continuity to such
event.
RSS General Manager Siddharaj Rai was
of the opinion that training will guide the participants to adopt new practices
and innovations in the news room.
Ministry Under-Secretary Mamata
Bastola expressed hope to get feedback from the event regarding the modality of
Ministry's annual programmmes targeted at journalists.
Ministry Officiating Secretary
Thakur and founding Chair of the Investigative Journalism Centre senior
journalist Rajendra Dahal are facilitators in the training which has been
attended by participants from the RSS, Gorkhapatra Corporation and Radio Nepal
and Nepal Television (Public Service Broadcasting Nepal) and the
representatives from Press Council among others. (RSS)
