Pokhara, Mar. 2: President Ramchandra Paudel has appealed to the public to join the great campaign of nation-building, emphasising that although significant progress has been made, much remains to be done for the country and its people.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the Shrimad Bhagwat Gyan Mahayagya and Religious Tourism Festival 2024, as well as the Devalaya Sarangkot Dham, he said that the country became a federal democratic republic through the long struggle, sacrifices and dedication of the people. He clarified that the goal of our constitution and the federal democratic republic is to ensure the economic development of the country.
President Paudel expressed concern over the exodus of young people, calling it a significant issue for the country. He urged all relevant parties to address the situation seriously. "The exodus of young people is a matter of great concern for the country. I urge all concerned parties to take this issue seriously and work to save the country from this situation," he said. He further suggested that the foundation of national development lies in the advancement of agriculture, water resources, tourism and infrastructure and stressed the need to strengthen the domestic economy by promoting the development and production of these sectors.
The President pointed out that infrastructure such as roads, electricity, water, education, health, and communication had reached every village following the political change in 1990. He emphasised that the next priority is to create employment and income opportunities within the country to prevent the migration of young people abroad. “From this sacred place, I would like to appeal that all of us should focus on solving this pressing issue,” he said.
President Paudel also highlighted the great potential of establishing the tourism sector as a foundation for income generation and prosperity, by promoting the unique natural beauty, culture, and civilisation of Pokhara and the surrounding region in the global tourism market.
President Paudel stated that the private sector plays a crucial role in developing tourism infrastructure and urged local, provincial and federal governments to create an investment-friendly environment by implementing appropriate policies, rules and laws.
President Paudel praised the Pokhara Regional International Airport for directly connecting the city to the world, noting that not only tourism campaigns, but also fairs, festivals and adventure activities are developing Pokhara as a must-visit destination globally.
"I believe that policymakers, all three levels of government, tourism entrepreneurs, businesses, and residents should work together to make Pokhara more developed and equipped with necessary facilities," he said.
