Kathmandu, Feb 25: The Third National Tug-of-War Championship is to take place on February 28 and 29. Nepal Tug-of-War Association is organizing the national competition.
Players from all seven provinces
will participate in the Championship to be held at SOS Hermann Gmeiner
Secondary School, Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, said Association president Bhawani
Poudel.
According to him, 10 teams
including seven province teams and three departmental teams of the three
security bodies towards men and eight teams including five province teams and
three departmental teams are competing in the Championship.
Sudurpaschim Province and Karnali
Province are not sending their women teams, according to the organizers. One
hundred and sixty-two players from a total 18 teams will take part in the
competition.
The winning team in the male
category will bag Rs 100 thousand while the first runner-up team will receive
Rs 50 thousand, Association's International Representative, Ananda Kumar Yadav,
said.
He added that the winner team in
the women category will receive Rs 60 thousand while the first runner-up team
will get Rs 40 thousand.
Yadav said that the national level
tug-of-war competition has been organized to promote and preserve this game
which remained neglected for long time in spite of being Nepal's one of the old
and indigenous sports.
The Association has estimated that
the Championship will cost Rs 3.1 million. (RSS)
