By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 23:Two Army officers won two of the three major titles at the 10th CoAS Open Marathon on Saturday. It was organised by the Nepali Army (NA) on the occasion of their 262nd establishment year.
The marathon saw a men’s open 42.195-km full-marathon alongside men’s and women’s opens in the 21-km half-marathon.
Khadga Bahadur Khadka of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC), who is also a Sergeant at the NA, won the full marathon while TAC’s Mukesh Pal, who is a Lance Corporal at the NA, reached the finish line first in the half-marathon (men).
On the other hand, Nepal’s national runner Santoshi Shrestha won the half-marathon in the women’s category.
Khadga finished the full marathon at 2 hours 17 minutes and 20 seconds to clinch the first position. Likewise, Pal finished his run at 1 hour four minutes and 41 seconds and Shrestha completed with 1 hour 17 minutes and four seconds on the clock. The three winners were awarded with motorcycles and scooters. Khadga also won a cash purse of Rs. 300,000 while Pal and Shrestha received Rs. 75,000 each.
Dharan 10K
In another marathon, the Dharan 10K Run saw Wilson Cheulliyot and Sharan Jerotich, both Kenyan nationals, emerge victorious in the male and female categories respectively.
Wilson and Sharan finished the 10-km run at 30 minutes 55 seconds and 38 minutes 42 seconds respectively.
Regarding the 10K run in the under-16 category, Ishwar Rai (39:13) and Juhi Rai (44:48) finished first in the male and female categories respectively.
