The model of quality education in Sahidnagar

By Bijay Kumar Sah,Dhalkebar, Feb. 15: At a time when there are growing concerns about the declining educational quality in community schools, Bilat Kisun Pragatishil Basic School in Hathipur, Sahidnagar Municiplaity-6, Dhanusha, has emerged as a model school in the municipality. 

Clean classrooms,  a well-maintained playground, toilets, proper facility of drinking water, teaching-learning activities in a disciplined environment, extracurricular activities and regular student attendance have made it the best school in the municipality.  

Most of the students in the school are from the Dalit community and the school is successfully competing with private schools.  Currently, 375 students are studying in the school. Of these, 90 per cent are from Dalit and marginalised communities. 

Instructions are given in  English from Early Child Development Class (ECDC) to class eight while the students in Nursery, LKG and Class 1 are taught using multimedia.   

Rajdev Thakur, the headmaster of the school, said that teaching-learning and technology-friendly teaching methods have significantly contributed to providing quality education to students. 

"A few years ago, parents were hesitant to send their children to the school. However, when the use of technology and English medium was started to improve the school environment, the number of students enrolling in the school went up,” he said. 

According to him, the municipality awarded the school recognizing it as the best school in the municipality last year.   

Headmaster Thakur informed that currently 10 teachers including those working in child development and contract quotas and permanent ones are working at the school.  

Now the school is working to upgrade it by adding grades IX and X. 

Headmaster Thakur stated that technology-friendly teaching methods have significantly contributed to providing quality education to students.
