BY ABINASH CHAUDHARY,Dhangadhi, Feb. 13: Dr. Hemraj Pant, an educator who has tirelessly worked for the development of education in Sudurpaschim Province, was accorded a civic reception in Dhangadhi on Wednesday.

In recognition of his contributions to the development of higher education in the province, Dhangadhi citizens, led by the municipality, accorded him a civic reception with a musical band and a chariot procession. During the grand ceremony, Dhangadhi Sub-Metropolitan City Mayor Gopal Hamal presented Dr. Pant with a letter of appreciation.

Born in 1954 in Uchhakot of Doti, Dr. Pant has made Dhangadhi his workplace since 1980. After completing his PhD in India, he dedicated 42 years of his life to teaching at the Kailali Multiple Campus.

During this time, he served as the campus chief for 22 years, contributing to the development of education in the province and the internal development of the campus.

In 2011, Dr. Pant was appointed Registrar of Far-Western University by the government. After completing his four-year tenure, he left the registrar's position in 2015 and continued teaching at Kailali Multiple Campus for another two years, retiring in 2017.

Dr. Pant’s early education began in Dadeldhura, where his father, Ayurveda Acharya Khagendra Nath Pant, had settled for work. He completed his primary education in Dadeldhura and continued his schooling up to grade eight at Sitaram Secondary School in Uchhakot. He passed his SLC from Durbar High School in 1972. In 1974, he passed I.Com.  from Tri Chandra College, Kathmandu and later completed his Master's degree from Tribhuvan University in 1980.

Afterwards, he started teaching at Kailali Multiple Campus, earning a monthly salary of Rs. 1,000.

Dr. Pant shared that although the campus had professors to teach other subjects, it struggled to find someone to teach accounting and economics, which led him to step in. He acknowledged that the Kailali Campus played a significant role in his personal development.

"I am an ordinary teacher," Dr. Pant said, "I don’t feel like I’ve done anything special to deserve this level of respect. I am grateful for the civic reception." He also said his intention to spend the remainder of his life in social service in Dhangadhi, saying, “I am always ready to offer any support I can.”

Mayor Hamal praised Professor Pant for his significant contributions to education, even after his retirement. He said, "He continues to contribute in any way possible."
