Poultry entrepreneurs handover memo to Home Minister

Chitwan, Feb 12: The local entrepreneurs have urged Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak for adoption of strict measures for checking at the Nepal-India border areas in the wake of the detection of bird flu in the poultry industry in India.     

The entrepreneurs met with the Home Minister today and called his attention towards making the border checking stricter citing the possibility of entry of the infection to Nepal due to the smuggling in of eggs, chicken and chicks through the border transit points.     

During the meeting, Home Minister Lekhak said that he would summon the Chiefs of the police organisations today itself and instruct them to prevent the illegal entry of any poultry products through the border area.     

Stating that he had received information regarding the matter before this as well, Minister Lekhak assured the entrepreneurs that the Home Administration will do the needful to prevent the entry of the disease into Nepal, according to Binod Pokharel, President of the Nepal Layers Poultry Keepers Association.     

Pokharel said that they have urged the Home Ministry to adopt strictness at the border as more than 30 per cent Indian whit eggs are supplied in the border areas and the nearby markets.(RSS)
