Kathmandu, Feb. 5: The government has decided to organise the ‘Samagarmatha Dialogue’ in Kathmandu from May 16 to 18, 2025.
The Dialogue will be based on the theme ‘Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity.’
Speaking at a regular press meeting organised to make the Cabinet decisions public on Tuesday, Minister for Communication and Information and Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung, said the dialogue will help to raise global concern regarding the increasing challenge of climate change impact seen in Nepal and other Himalayan nations.
The Cabinet meeting held on Monday decided to establish a Consumer Court in the Kathmandu Valley with jurisdiction over cases related to Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Lalitpur districts.
Additionally, the Cabinet has extended the agreement period reached with USEF Nepal for the operation and management of Juvenile Reform Homes in Bhaktapur, Morang, Kaski, and Banke under the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens. The agreement for educational programmes for underprivileged children has also been extended until mid-July, 2025.
Furthermore, the meeting approved 10 additional temporary officer-level positions for programmes under the Ministry of Urban Development for the current fiscal year.
The Cabinet has also approved the University Grants Commission Financial Procedure Regulations-2081 B.S., as well as the Internal Control System Guidelines, 2081 BS, and the Special Economic Zone (Second Amendment) Regulations, 2081 BS.
Minister Gurung also informed that the Cabinet meeting has given authority to the Nepal Electricity Authority to purchase 2973,163 promoter shares of IL&FS Energy Development Company Limited, India, which is being sold by the Cross Border Transmission Company, established for the construction of a transmission line from the Nepal-India border to Muzaffarpur, India.
The government has approved the visit of Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Devendra Dahal to Marrakesh, Morocco to participate in the Fourth Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety to be held from February 18 to 20, and the visit of Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Sarat Singh Bhandari to take part in the World Government Summit-2025 to be held in Saudi Arabia from February 11 to 14.
