blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Feb. 4: President Ramchandra Paudel and Vice-President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav have extended their best wishes to all Nepalis, both at home and abroad, on the occasion of Basanta Panchami and Saraswati Puja, 2025.

In his message, President Paudel underscored the importance of worshipping Goddess Saraswati, the deity of wisdom, knowledge and music.

He highlighted the tradition of enrolling children in school and initiating their formal education on this day, as it is believed to bring the divine blessings of Goddess Saraswati.

The festival also holds special significance for musicians and those embarking on new journeys, including auspicious ceremonies such as weddings and sacred thread rituals, he added.

President Paudel further noted that Basanta Panchami marks the arrival of spring, symbolising longer days and the transition from winter to warmer weather. “Basanta Shrawan and Saraswati Puja are not just rituals; they energise our lives and inspire us towards discoveries,” he said, emphasising the festival’s role in fostering a deeper connection between nature and human life.

He also expressed his hope that the occasion would strengthen Nepal’s cultural unity and help preserve its rich traditions.

Likewise, Vice-President Yadav, in his message, highlighted the cultural and spiritual essence of the festival, which honours Goddess Saraswati as the symbol of wisdom, knowledge, arts and music. He pointed out that educational institutions mark the occasion with special events, including the ritual worship of books, pens, and musical instruments, symbolising respect for learning and creativity.

Vice-President Yadav also acknowledged the festival’s deep-rooted traditions in various communities.

In the Madhes region, it is linked to agriculture, with farmers worshipping ploughs and honouring those engaged in farming. Additionally, he noted that Basanta Panchami transcends religious boundaries, celebrated by Hindus, Buddhists and even the Muslim community, who observe it as Sufi Basanta.

He expressed his hope that the festival would promote social harmony, inspire positivity, and encourage the pursuit of education and wisdom.
