President pays tribute to martyrs

BY A STAFF REPORTER,Kathmandu, Jan. 29: President Ramchandra Paudel has extended heartfelt tribute to the great martyrs, including Shukraraj Shastri, Dharma Bhakta Mathema, Dashrath Chand and Gangalal Shrestha, who sacrificed their invaluable lives for the freedom of people, democracy and national sovereignty.

Issuing a message on the occasion of Martyrs' Day on Wednesday, President Paudel said that the day will inspire all political parties and the public to fulfil the aspirations of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Nepal’s independence and the freedom of the Nepali people. He also expressed his belief that advancing towards achieving the goals of sustainable peace, good governance, development and prosperity will be the true tribute to the martyrs.

Meanwhile, Vice President Ramsahay Prasad Yadav also paid a heartfelt tribute to all the known and unknown martyrs. In his message, the Vice President said that the courage shown by the martyrs serves as an inspiration for everyone in the creation of a self-reliant economy and a strong, resilient and developed nation. He emphasised that Martyrs' Day is not just a day to remember the martyrs but also a day that motivates us to move forward with their guidance and inspiration. 

He further said that the development, peace, prosperity and integrity of the nation are possible only through national unity. To fulfil the aspirations of sustainable peace, good governance, development, empowerment and prosperity, it is essential that all political parties, civil society and citizens unite with firm resolve, pure intentions and determined action, he said. 

Martyrs Day is observed every year on Magh 16 to honour the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives during the democratic revolutions and popular movements against the autocratic Rana rule, the Panchayat system and the monarchy.
