Niraj claims third major title

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan. 25: Niraj Tamang won the Surya Nepal Western Open, fourth event under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2024-25, at the par-69 Himalayan Golf Course in Pokhara on Friday.

Niraj shot 4-over 73 in the third and final round to post the winning total of 1-under 206 and claimed third career title. He defeated Jayram Shrestha by three strokes to win the second straight title of the season. With the trophy Niraj earned Rs 150,000.

Jayram carded even-par 69 for total score of 2-over 209 and he moved five places up to second position. He received Rs 100,000. Bhuwan Kumar Rokka finished third at 3-over 210 after he played 7-over 76. He earned Rs 75,000. Defending champion Bhuwan Nagarkoti came fourth at 4-over 211 after he carded 2-under 67 in the final round. Bhuvan received Rs 63,000.

Four pros, Sanjay Lama, Dhana Bahadur Thapa, Bishnu Prasad Sharma and Rame Magar shared the fifth position at 7-over 214. Sanjay and Dhana played 7-over 76 each, whereas Bishnu and Rame played 3-over 72 each. They received Rs 44,750 each. Krishna Man Rajbahak and Toran Bikram Shahi were tied for ninth place at 10-over 217 and they earned Rs 33,500 each. Krishna Man shot 6-over 75 and Toran played 4-over 73 in the third round.
