Humla, Jan. 16:Three rural municipalities in Humla have recently signed an agreement with the Food Management and Trading Company Limited for the sale and purchase of indigenous crops.

Simkot, Sarkegad, and Tajakot rural municipalities signed the agreement to manage the collection, inventory, sale, and marketing of food grains produced in the Himalayan district.

Chief Executive Officer of the company, Ramesh Acharya, said that the agreement aims to increase the production and marketing of indigenous crops while contributing to food security for the food crisis-prone areas and underprivileged populations.

The agreement is expected to ensure the supply of locally produced food grains, enhance productivity, and support food security in Simkot, Sarkegad, and Tajakot rural municipalities.

Separate agreements, each lasting five years, have been signed with the three municipalities.

The company will market local crops such as chino (millet), kaguno (foxtail mille), soybeans, millet, buckwheat, and marsi rice (brown rice).

Acharya mentioned that the previous agreement for the marketing of indigenous crops with Simkot Rural Municipality had a duration of two years, which has now expired.

The company has now signed five-year agreements with the three rural municipalities.

The quality, pricing, and transportation of food grains will be determined as per the company’s standards. The operation of sales outlets will be based on local needs.

Simkot Rural Municipality Chairman Bijay Bhandari, Tajakot Rural Municipality Chairman Lalkesh Jaisi, and Sarkegad Rural Municipality Chairman Than Bahadur Rokaya signed the agreement to increase, preserve, and promote the production of indigenous crops in Humla.

Chairman Bhandari said that the company initiated this collaboration to address the challenges in marketing indigenous crops produced in the district.
