OAG successful in 68.27 per cent cases in fiscal year 2023/24

Kathmandu, Jan 12: The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has won 68.27 per cent of the cases that it filed in the fiscal year 2023/24.     

The Office shared this in a press conference it organized today after submitting its Annual Report for Fiscal Year 2023/24 to President Ramchandra Paudel.     

It is stated in the Report that OAG achieved success in 68.27 per cent of the total cases decided in the last fiscal year.     

"In the Report year, the government attorney offices have prosecuted 45.091 cases against total 70.284 defendants. A decision has been made not to prosecute 7.88 per cent of the cases into which investigations have been carried out along with opinion, which is an increase compared to the previous fiscal year," the Report stated.     

The number of cases decided to be prosecuted with the government as the plaintiff is 44,811 in the fiscal year 2023/24. Similarly, the number of cases in which the government is defendant is 69,635 in this fiscal year.     

OAG also stated that it has provided legal opinions and suggestion on 45 topics in which different government bodies had sought its legal advice on various constitutional and legal matters.     

The Report also stated that OAG has carried out various policy reforms in order to make the prosecution process based on scientific evidence and the criminal justice system more robust.     

On the occasion, Attorney General Ramesh Badal said it is necessary to enhance the capacity of the investigators and the prosecutors for the prevention and control of new forms and trends of crime spurred by technology and in view of the expansion of the scope of works of the government attorney office.(RSS)
