BY RAMMANI DAHAL,Makwanpur, Jan. 5: The Bagmati Provincial government has initiated the construction of modern security checkpoints at eight locations along the province's entry points.
While no other province in the country has established technologically advanced security checkpoints at inter-provincial entry points, the Bagmati Provincial government is the first to take this step by moving forward with the construction of these checkpoints.
Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Suraj Chandra Lamichhane informed that these checkpoints were being established with the goal of strengthening internal security and contributing to revenue enhancement.
In the first phase, the provincial government has begun the process of establishing security checkpoints at two locations, Ratomate, located in Ward No. 14 and 15 of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City and Bhiman in Sindhuli District.
On Saturday, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law held a discussion with stakeholders at Ratomate in Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City-14 to address the necessity, site identification and investment related to the construction of the security checkpoints.
Secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, Purna Bahadur Darji, informed that the province has taken the initiative for this project. A detailed project report and environmental impact assessment for the establishment of a security checkpoint at Bhiman in Sindhuli District have already been completed. Additionally, the provincial government allocated Rs. 2 million in the current fiscal year for land purchase in Bhimad and Rs. 3 million to advance the land purchase process in Ratomate after preparing a detailed project report and completing the environmental impact assessment.
Secretary Darji informed that the establishment of these security checkpoints is essential for maintaining organised records of vehicles entering or exiting the province, enforcing laws against illegal activities by drivers and vehicles, implementing provincial taxes and revenues and reducing accidents by deploying limited personnel at the checkpoints.
He also pointed out that integrated security checkpoints would save manpower and time, assist in identifying and halting suspicious vehicles, carry out quarantine checks, measure vehicle weight and even conduct X-ray scans of vehicles. During the discussion, the Chief Minister of Bagmati Province, Bahadur Singh Lama Tamang, emphasised that integrated security checkpoints at provincial entry points are crucial for improving internal security and boosting revenue.
He said that, in collaboration with the federal government, security checkpoints could be established at international entry points and that coordination between the three levels of government would be key to ensuring effective implementation.
