Muslim community needs to heed special emphasis on education: Chairman Ansari

By Siraj Khan, Nepalgunj, Jan.1: Chairman of the National Muslim Commission Samim Miya Ansari said that the situation of the Muslim community in Nepal is piteous stressing that special emphasis needs to be given to providing education.

Speaking at a workshop jointly organized by the Muslim Commission, Plan International, and UNESCO Club, Banke, on the role of imams in the upliftment of Muslim children and youth, Chairman Ansari emphasized that community leaders and Muslim imams, need to pay special attention to this issue while making the community aware of it. They need to initiate to provide opportunities as well. Imams are religious leaders in the religion of Islam.

He said that the role of Imams is not only to lead prayers but also to give various awareness discourses to uplift the Muslim community and urged them to take special initiative for education.

Stressing the need to make education, health, and social status accessible to Muslim communities Chairman Ansari said they have been putting constant pressure on the government in this regard. 

In the program Minister for Internal Affairs and Law. , Adesh Agarwal said that a budget worth Rs 50 million has been allocated for the educational advancement of Muslim children and youth in this region, and will be further increased in the future.

Parvez Ali Siddiqui, the chief patron of the Banke UNESCO club,  Muslim leader, Mohammad Harun Halwai, and others were also present in the program.

Sajid Ali Siddiqui presented a paper on the education of Muslim youth and children and Uvedur Rahman Khan on the role of Muslim theology and imams.

Presenting the paper, Siddiqui gave detailed information about the educational condition of the children of the community and the role of the imam in Islam. 

About 60 Muslim imams from Banke, Bardia, Surkhet, and Kailali participated in the program.
