PM Oli wishes success for child marriage-free Nepal

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Jan.1 : Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has extended his best wishes for the success of the ‘National Campaign for a Child Marriage-Free Nepal.’

During a meeting with campaigners at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday, Prime Minister Oli extended his wishes for the campaign, which commenced on Tuesday under the leadership of the National Child Welfare Council. Prime Minister Oli also signed a pledge to eradicate child marriage, describing it as a social issue and a legal crime.

The Penal Code (Muluki Aparadh Samhita), 2074, has deemed child marriage a punishable offence.

The meeting was attended by former Minister for Women, Children, and Senior Citizens Bhagwati Chaudhary, former Chief Minister of Lumbini Province Dilli Bahadur Chaudhary, founder of India’s ‘Just Rights for Children’ Bhuwan Rimbu, and individuals who have experienced child marriage and are now actively involved in the campaign against it.
