By Our Correspondent,Dhankuta, Dec. 31: The Progressive Writers’ Association (PWA)of Nepal has awarded the ‘PWA Talent Award -2081’ and honour to the literary figure, Jhamak Ghimire, at her home in Kachide, Dhankuta, on Sunday.
The central committee of PWA honoured Jhamak with a cash prize of Rs. 20,100, a certificate of honour, and the award.
The award ceremony was attended by Chief Guest, former Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Jhamak Ghimire Foundation, Gopal Guragain, Chief District Officer of Dhankuta District Administration, Tuwraj Pokhrel, Deputy Mayor of Dhankuta Municipality, Bhimadevi Khanal, PWA Vice President Namuna Sharma, and others.
Jhamak was honoured for her exceptional contribution to Nepali literature and the advancement of progressive writing, said Vice President Sharma. Born in Kachide,, Dhankuta, in 1980, Jhamak Ghirmire is a talented Nepali writer.
Despite being born with disabilities that prevent her from moving her hands and legs, standing, walking, and speaking, she began writing by drawing with her feet in the dust of her courtyard during her childhood.
With the help of three toes, she grasped the pen and rose to prominence in literature.
Jhamak is able to hear and understand, and her memory is sharp. She began writing in 1996 and has contributed columns to national and local newspapers. She also received prestigious Madan Puraskar.
Her autobiography, Jiwan Kada Ki Phool, is her most famous work. For this book, she received the Madan Puraskar in 2010.
