By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 27: The government has permitted the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport to buy equipment and technology required for the operation and maintenance of rail services in Nepal through a government-to-government (G2G) system.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held in Singha Durbar on Tuesday took the decision to this effect, according to Minister for Communication and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung.
Making the Cabinet decisions public on Thursday, Minister Gurung said the Cabinet allowed the Infrastructure Ministry to begin the purchase procedure abiding by the Public Procurement Act-2063 and the Rules 2064.
As per the decision, the Ministry can hire skilled manpower and purchase the necessary equipment required for the operation and maintenance of the rail services.
Minister Gurung said that the Cabinet has also given agreement in principle to draft a bill regarding the services
and facilities to be enjoyed by former very important persons (VIPs) of the constitutional bodies.
According to Minister Gurung, the government has decided to form a recommendation committee under the coordination of Dr. Shivaraj Adhikari, Vice-Chair of the National Planning Commission, to appoint the Chairperson of the Nepal Insurance Authority. The recommendation committee includes – Secretary of the Ministry of Finance Ram Prasad Ghimire and Jyotindra Ojha as members.
The government has also approved Motor Vehicles and Transport Management (Tenth Amendment) Rules-2081.
The Cabinet meeting promoted Joint Secretary Er. Madhu Prasad Bhetwal as secretary and deputed him at the Secretariat of the Water and Energy Commission.
