blog

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 27: The Kathmandu Valley is likely to experience its first good winter rainfall on Saturday, influenced by a Western disturbance. Many parts of the country are also expected to witness cloudy conditions.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM), the Western disturbance may bring light to moderate rainfall in most areas of Sudurpaschim Province and Karnali Province, including some high hills and mountainous regions, from Saturday afternoon to Sunday.

Rojan Lamichhane, a meteorologist at the Meteorological Forecasting Division under the DHM, light to moderate snowfall is expected in many areas of the high hills and mountainous regions of Gandaki, Bagmati and Koshi Province.

Similarly, many areas of Sudurpaschim Province and Karnali Province, as well as some areas of Lumbini Province, may experience light to moderate rain. In Gandaki, Bagmati, Madhes and Koshi Province, there is a chance of light rain in a few locations. The impact of this weather system is also likely to cause a drop in temperatures, Lamichhane said.

Therefore, due to rain, snowfall and their potential impacts on daily life, agriculture, mountaineering, aviation, transportation, and other sectors, the general public and all concerned stakeholders are requested to adopt necessary precautions and preparedness, the DHM asked.

Dr. Binod Pokharel, Associate Professor at the Central Department of Hydrology and Meteorology at Tribhuvan University, stated that the rainfall on Saturday is likely to wash away dust and pollution in the Valley, as heavier rainfall is expected compared to last Tuesday. “It will bring cold weather for the next two days before returning to normal,” he added.
