Necessary to strengthen structures for disaster risk reduction: Home Minister

Kathmandu, Dec.25: Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has said that it is necessary to strengthen the already built structures for disaster risk reduction.

He said so while speaking at a discussion program held in Kathmandu on Thursday on measures to make the institutional capacity and work responsibilities of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) more effective.

He said, "We are at high risk of disaster and our geography keeps us at such risk as well. There are Some are natural hazards while some man-made hazards. We are in a very high-risk situation. Therefore, we need to join hands to minimize its risk."

He said, ' It is necessary for us all to move forward together for forecasting, information, immediate rescue, reconstruction and restoration. We have an authority and we need to strengthen it. We need to make it more efficient economically, with manpower and while information delivery. We have built a legal structure, but now it is necessary to strengthen such structures. It is important to make them strong and capable to reduce the disaster risk."
