By Our Correspondent,Tanahun, Dec. 24: Efforts are being made to develop the birthplace of Nepal’s first poet and national luminary, Aadikavi  Bhanubhakta Acharya, as a literary and cultural destination.  As part of these efforts, the first Bhanu Nagar Festival is set to take place.

Organised by the Bhanu Nagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the festival is scheduled to be held in Bhanu Municipality-1, Bhansar, from December 25 to January 5.

The festival is aimed to promote the area nationally and internationally as a literary hub.

Krishna Kumar Shrestha, the chairman of the Bhanu Nagar Chamber of Commerce and Industry and coordinator of the festival’s main organising committee, said that the festival was planned to promote Bhanu’s birthplace, which has been overshadowed and ignored for a long time.

He further added, “We decided to hold this festival to contribute to establishing Bhanu Bhakta Acharya’s birthplace, which has been overlooked, as a destination for literary tourism.”

The organisers expect over 100,000 visitors and anticipate economic transactions worth Rs. 6.4 million during the festival. To ensure the festival’s success, several sub-committees have been formed under the main organising committee, informed Krishna Chandra Koirala, the general secretary of the organising committee.

The festival will feature various activities such as visits to Bhanu’s birthplace Chundi Ramgha and nearby areas, industrial exhibitions, sales of oranges, lentils, ginger, and fresh vegetables, entertaining fairs, a duet singing competition among popular artists, and cultural programmes showcasing the traditional attire and lifestyles of indigenous communities.
