By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Dec. 22: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that yoga and meditation must be adopted as a way of life to make the world, which is afflicted with war and unrest, peaceful.
Addressing a programme organised by the Prime Minister’s Office on the occasion of World Meditation Day, 2024, at the Army Pavilion in Tundikhel on Saturday, Prime Minister Oli emphasised that peace would not be achieved in the world by using weapons in return for weapons.
He urged people to embrace meditation and yoga with positive thinking.
Prime Minister Oli said that physical and mental meditation should be practiced regularly with a civilised culture and positive thinking, and this knowledge should be passed on to schools and the new generation.
He pointed out that meditation, used by conscious human beings in a natural way, has been the origin of civilisation.
He also mentioned that it is necessary to integrate meditation and yoga regularly to fulfill the government’s commitment to making the country a healthy Nepal. “We must lead a healthy life by maintaining a proper diet and lifestyle. The aim should be to avoid falling sick and needing hospital treatment,” said Prime Minister Oli.
“We all must work together to build a healthy and peaceful world. I have also taken note of the importance of promoting meditation and yoga on behalf of the government. Letting go of selfishness and focusing on concentration is the solution to every problem.” During the programme, Swami Anand Arun, Santosh Kedia, and LP Bhanu Sharma demonstrated various meditation practices.
Country making advances on different fronts: PM Oli
Meanwhile, our Itahari correspondent adds: Prime Minister Oli has said that the country is advancing in several areas following the changes in the political system. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 51st National Convention of Nepal Jesuits in Itahari on Saturday, Prime Minister Oli highlighted the significant improvements in infrastructure, economic development, and employment opportunities before and after the political transition.
“What we need is the happiness of humanity. The goal of our hard work is to achieve happiness,” said Prime Minister Oli. He emphasised that people should be valued based on their knowledge, intelligence, and character.
“Even if people possess similar intelligence, if their minds are corrupt, it will not lead to success. What people truly need is decency, humility, and a lack of pride,” he added.
The Prime Minister further explained that true human happiness can be achieved only if individuals apply their knowledge and intelligence with a right and disciplined mindset. “Jesuits teach discipline and inspire people to maintain positive morale through respect for others. They do not encourage arrogance or abuse, but rather a commitment to protecting the environment. These values are crucial for humanity and align with the vision of "Prosperous Nepal, happy Nepali”. He also referenced World Meditation Day, urging everyone to adopt its principles and take responsibility for the welfare of both people and the planet.
The Prime Minister praised the Nepal Jesuits for their contributions to world peace, leadership development, and entrepreneurship. He acknowledged their continuous efforts to spread their positive influence across Nepal.
During the programme, talented youth who have made significant contributions to various fields were honoured for their achievements.
