RSS Chair Jha insists on protection of local languages, cultures

Janakpurdham, Nov 29: Executive Chair of the National News Agency (RSS), Dharmendra Jha, has said media professionals need prioritizing issues that protect and promote the languages, cultures, and civilizations of the country's various ethnic communities.     

Speaking at a discussion with journalists organized by the RSS Madhesh Province Office here Friday, Chair Jha highlighted the crucial role of media and journalists in preserving and safeguarding languages and cultures.     

He also urged the three-tier governments to support media that are making invaluable contributions to the promotion of religion, language, culture and civilization.     

Chair Jha further utilised the moment to share about the present management’s decision at RSS to expand its news services in Maithili, Awadhi, and Nepal Bhasa in addition to Nepali and English. The move was driven by a sense of responsibility to promote local languages and cultures in accordance with constitutional provisions, he said, adding that the RSS services in the three ethnic languages are available free of cost.     

The RSS is also mulling expansion its free services to additional languages, depending on available resources, demand, and relevance, according to the Chair.     

Shyam Sundar Yadav, Chief of the Madhesh Province Mass Communications Authority, Kailash Das, Acting Chair of the Madhesh Province Media Council, Rinku Mishra (Gayatri), central member of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), Awadesh Kamat, Acting Chair of FNJ Dhanusha, and senior journalist Shyam Sunsar Joshi underscored the importance of promoting local languages, including Maithili, by the media, while acknowledging RSS initiative in this regard.(RSS)
