By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Nov. 29: Police have arrested three individuals accused of being involved in a honey trap scheme.
Those arrested include 25-year-old Samriddhi Magar from Ilam’s Mai Municipality-1, currently residing in Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-5, Naya Thimi, Bhaktapur, 30-year-old Dipendra Darji from Kavre Bhumlu Rural Municipality-4, Koshipari, currently residing in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-15, Swoyambhu, and 25-year-old Barsha Darji from Bhaktapur Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-5, Naya Thimi.
According to Superintendent of Police Kaji Kumar Acharya of the Katmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, the suspects allegedly lured a medical service provider into a premeditated trap with the intent of extorting money.
On November 21, Barsha reportedly contacted the medical professional online, requesting a home visit for wound dressing. She then invited him to her room and accused him of sexual misconduct.
Threatening to file a rape case, the group blackmailed the victim and extorted money from him.
Acting on information about the blackmail, police from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, Teku, arrested Samriddhi and Dipendra on Tuesday, followed by Barsha on Wednesday from Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-3, Bhaktapur.
During the arrest, the police recovered a check worth Rs. 75,000 issued in Barsha Darji's name from NIC Asia Bank, Rs. 20,500 in cash, and four mobile phones.
The suspects have been sent to the District Police Office, Bhaktapur, for further investigation under charges of criminal profiteering.
