Discussion programme held with Sundar Sinkhwal

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Nov. 22: Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) has organised a programme titled ‘Kala Sarshta Sanga Lekhak’ (Writer with an Artist) programme at Siddhartha Art Gallery, Babar Mahal in Kathmandu on Thursday.  

 The event was based on the first solo art exhibition of Paubha paintings titled Sadhana by traditional Paubha artist Sundar Sinkhwal.

Paubha artist Sinkhwal has been actively involved in the field for the past 38 years.

The programme was coordinated by Keshav Raj Khanal, president of the Society of Fine Art Journalists (Sofaj) Nepal.

In the programme, senior artist and academy council member Sundar Sinkhwal answered questions from writers and journalists about his art, artistic journey, style, technique, philosophy and influences. 

The exhibition showcases a total of 30 Paubha paintings. 

Except for a few, most of the paintings were created over 6 to 7 years. The exhibit includes Paubha paintings inspired by Hindu and Buddhist philosophies, said the artist. 

In the exhibited arts, Hindu-themed artworks feature deities such as Ganesh, Saraswoti, Kumar, Laxmi, Bishnu, Krishna, Bhadrakali, Guhyeshwari and Harihar, while Buddhist-themed works include Lokeshvara, Manjushree, Arya Tara, Basundhara, Vajradhara, Jambhala (Kubera), Cakrasamvara Shakti and the 21 Taras.

Artist Sinkhwal has made the Paubhas artworks using traditional methods like Gouache, Water, Acrylic and Oil Colour. 

The displayed works reflect Sinkhwal’s artistic dedication, with ample signs of his artistic devotion visible in the pieces.

The event was attended by Naradmani Hartamchhali, Chancellor of the Academy, Devendra Kumar Kafle ‘Thumkeli,’ Member Secretary of the Academy, Palsangmo Lama, Head of the Traditional Painting Department of NAFA, Sangeeta Thapa, Founder and Director of Siddhartha Art Gallery, senior Paubha artists Purna Prasad Hyoju and Ratna Gopal Sinkhwal, as well as art journalists, writers and others.

The art exhibition by Sinkhwal will continue till November 25 at Siddhartha Art Gallery.
