By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 17: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the rumors of the government change are baseless.

Addressing a special ceremony organised at the Police Headquarters in Naxal on the occasion of the 69th Nepal Police Day on Wednesday evening, Prime Minister Oli dismissed the rumors that the present government was being replaced after Dashain, stating that the current coalition of the Nepali Congress and the UML would complete its full term.

“There are rumors about change in the present government leadership after festival, but from this forum, I would like to clarify that such rumors are baseless and the present government will complete its full term,” Prime Minister Oli said.

“They say there will be a change in the government immediately after Dashain,” he said, “Which Dashain? In 2084 B.S after the elections? That’s fine,” Prime Minister said.

He also reminded that he would lead the government for about one year and nine months, after which he would hand over power to Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba as per the agreement reached between the two parties.

Prime Minister Oli, who is also the Chairman of CPN-UML, said, “I have already stated before that this government will change automatically after serving one year and nine months.”

He urged people to stay assured that the Deuba-led government would hold the general elections.

Referring to the coalition of the Nepali Congress and UML to form the government, Prime Minister Oli said, “This is not a fragile coalition; remember that the present government has almost a two-thirds majority.”

Prime Minister Oli further said that the government formed by the Nepali Congress and UML, which has a significant history and contribution, is not a fragile coalition.

Prime Minister Oli clarified that a government was formed by large parties to bring about change in the country. Prime Minister Oli also stated that the government’s focus was on making the Nepal Police strong and capable.

He asserted that the constitution and system would be protected, and the rights of the people would be strengthened. He said that laws related to the Federal Police would soon be passed and that a new era would begin for the police.

During the ceremony, the Nepal Police showcased demonstrations, parades and performances reflecting the history and functions of the police.

Meanwhile, Minister for Home Affairs Ramesh Lekhak said that the government prioritised the amendment and creation of new laws related to the Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.

Speaking at the same function, Home Minister Lekhak emphasised the government’s focus on formulating necessary laws for both police organisations—Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force.

“I assure you that during the upcoming session of the federal parliament, new laws for both security forces will be formulated and enacted,” said Minister Lekhak.

He expressed confidence that the implementation of the new laws would benefit the development of the forces and their career growth. He also mentioned that the government would take all possible measures to further strengthen the security organisations in the coming days.

Similarly, Inspector General of Nepal Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar said that Nepal Police has been shouldering over 1,000 types of duties except its major duties including maintaining human rights.

Nepal Police has always been discharging civic-centric policing in the society and has remained as major pillar to society in crime control and maintain law and order. He said that Nepal Police has been proving itself capable enough to fulfil its duties provided by the government.

He also said that the for the issuance of new Nepal Police Law to replace present Nepal Police Act-2012 B.S., the draft has reached Public Service Commission for further review after endorsement from the Cabinet.
