Provide finance, technology to Nepal to minimise climate change hazards: NA Chair Dahal

By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Oct 14: National Assembly (NA) Chairman Narayan Prasad Dahal has urged the international community to provide adequate financial resources and technology to Nepal to enable the country minimise climate change hazards as adverse impact was felt in the Himalayas including Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world.

Addressing the general assembly of the inter parliamentary union (IPU) today in Geneva, NA Chairman Dahal pointed at the need to utilise advancement in technology and innovation for the common benefit of the humankind.

The 149th assembly of the IPU is held under the overarching theme of "Harnessing science, technology and innovation for a more peaceful and sustainable future."

Mentioning that there was a gap between the countries and within a country with regard to access to and capacity development of information technology, Chairman Dahal said, “ Even today, nearly two and a half billion people lack access to information technology. Therefore it is necessary to ensure equitable access of all to the achievements of science, technology and innovations.”


He also said that there was a wide gad between the developed and developing countries in relation to development of science and technology and that there was a need of exchanges of best practices and experiences, policy making and implementation among the legislatures.
