CCTV cameras installed in Baijanath area to check tiger menace

By Siraj Khan,Nepalgunj, Oct. 8: Locals in Baijanath Rural Municipality of Banke district are afraid to come out as tigers have been sighted almost daily in the community forest area.

Four CCTV cameras have been installed in the community forest located in the municipality’s Ward No. 6 to control tiger sightings.

According to Ramkumar Rana Chhetri, the Chairman of the New Hariyali Forest User Group in Lalpur, four cameras have been installed in three nearby community forests under the initiative of the ward office of Baijanath-6.

Residents have reported that tigers have been regularly sighted in the area for several days. Chhetri said that tigers have been seen in the New Hariyali Community Forest, the Gauthali Community Forest and the Shanti Community Forest.

Chhetri said that fear among locals has increased since the tiger sightings, leading many to stop going outside their homes and they have also stopped taking their cattle to graze in the nearby forest.
