Death toll reaches 231 in monsoon-caused disaster

By A Staff Reporter,Kathmandu, Oct. 3: Death toll in the recent monsoon-caused disaster climbed to 231 individuals with 165 injury cases as of Wednesday. 

According to Joint Secretary and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs Rishiram Tiwari, 24 persons are still missing in the landslides, floods and inundation.  

He said that a total of 13,071 people have been rescued from the flood and landslide-affected areas, and search, rescue, and relief operations are underway.

Relief supplies, including food, are being provided to the affected individuals, and free treatment is being offered to the injured, said Tiwari. 

Saying that the government has prioritised rescue and relief efforts, Joint Secretary Tiwari stated that relentless efforts are being made to reopen obstructed highways for transportation.

Also, according to the report of the Nepal Police Headquarters, five highest casualty rates were recorded in Kavre with 68 deaths, 44 in Lalitpur, 39 in Dhading, 17 in Kathmandu, and 10 in Sindhupalchok. 

According to the update, Gandaki, Karnali and Sudurpaschim Province have no human casualty report. 

In the Kathmandu Valley alone (three districts), altogether 66 persons were killed in the disaster and 37 were injured. Nine persons are still missing in the disaster in the Valley.

Among province-wise record, Bagmati Province recorded highest death cases with 135 casualties, 104 injuries and 10 missing cases.

In Koshi Province, 19 persons were found dead with 14 injuries and five missing cases. In Madhes Province, nine persons were killed and seven were injured. No one is missing in the province.
